Fidget Box
Some students have a hard time sitting still or focusing their attention while someone else is talking. Some kids need to move and would rather roam around the room than sit quietly at a table. A fidget box holds small tactile items that a student can hold and manipulate in their hand. The student can pull, twist, rub and squeeze these items to help with the need to move while sitting.
Some things to keep in mind when using fidgets:
Inexpensive fidget box ideas:
Rice/sand filled balloons, Koosh ball, squeeze (stress) ball, clothes pins, kneaded erasers, small ball of clay, mini slinky
Some things to keep in mind when using fidgets:
- Fidgets can be very beneficial for some, but very distracting for others.
- Set some guidelines about fidget use so they won't be a distraction for the rest of the class (i.e. it must stay out of sight and in their lap).
